TALIBANI TO MEET ASSISTANT SECRETARY OF STATE DAVID WELCH

Met with President Jalal Talabani at the Peace Palace in Baghdad this afternoon Thursday, 21/1/2010, David Welch, Assistant Secretary of State, former U.S. and who now heads the Bechtel of oil and gas, and who has ties to a strong friendship with the president.

During the meeting which was attended by U.S. Ambassador to Iraq Christopher Hill and Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari, Minister of Water Resources Dr. Latif Rashid, President of the Office of the Presidency of the Republic Naseer al-Ani, the Iraqi president, speaking for the overall achievements and successes achieved through the liberation of Iraq, in the fields of security, economic and investment process and oil.

His Excellency praised the role played by Welch when he was an assistant to U.S. Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs in establishing harmony and brotherhood and peace in the Kurdistan Region, he added, "When you visit the Kurdistan Region will see many of the achievements and encouraging developments in the areas of promoting security, stability and democracy, and economic development and investment."

For his part by David Welch and his accompanying delegation were pleased to meet with the President, and happiness to achieve many successes and achievements throughout Iraq and inclusive of the Kurdistan Region, President Talabani thankful for their warm welcome and affection.
