FINANCE MINISTRY RELEASES 20% OF INVESTMENT BUDGET FOR 2010

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq: Finance Minister Baqer al-Zubaydi gave instructions to release 20 percent of the provincial investment budget for the year 2010, according to a ministry statement on Sunday.

“Minister Zubaydi gave directives to the ministry’s accounting department to release 20 percent of the 2010 provincial investment budget for ongoing projects,” read the statement as received by Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

“The minister also instructed that the 2010 operational budget, including the appropriations for the ration card, the social security umbrella and civil servants and pensioners’ salaries be released,” added the statement.

Introduction

The primary objectives of the CBI is to achieve, maintain domestic price stability, and foster a stable competitive market based financial system. The CBI shall also promote sustainable growth, employment and prosperity in Iraq.

The functions of the CBI in addition to achieving the objectives mentioned above is:
Formulate and implement monetary policy including exchange rate policy for Iraq.

Hold gold and manage the state reserves of gold.

Issue and manage Iraq currency.

Establish oversee and promote sound and efficient payment system.

Issue licenses or permits to banks and to regulate and supervise banks as further specified this law and in the banking law.

Carry out any ancillary tasks or transactions in accidental to the exercise of its functions under Iraqi law.

At the end of her speech to more than a thousand US and Iraqi businesspeople packed in a hotel ballroom, Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton threw an American spin on an Arab proverb: "Dawn does not come twice to wake a man - or a woman." Her point...? It's time to invest in Iraq.

It sounds crazy. Though the violence has ebbed, terrorists still make their presence felt with deadly attacks. Challenges - from dividing oil revenues to the future of the northern city of Kirkuk - threaten to split the country. Even if Iraq hangs together, it faces a daunting to-do list of reforms before it becomes a place many foreign businesses would set foot in.

Yet, like Secretary Clinton, some consultants and more than a few US businesspeople are making the case for Iraq: This uncertain period is precisely when foreign companies can reap the biggest gains. Bob Flavell had heard the same hype, but he wanted hard data about sales prospects for his company, Base 1 Welding Supply. When he asked an Iraqi trade official for it, Mr. Flavell was floored. "The numbers he was talking about, just for our product line, would exceed all of what California exported all of last year to Iraq," Flavell says. "Those are big numbers."

Iraq, to put it mildly, needs everything: more than 2 million housing units, half a million hospital beds, seemingly endless technology and know-how for an escalating oil and gas extraction industry, the rebuilding of the nation's once-robust education system from top to bottom.

RV, RV, RV, my banks opinion...

The latest word on the RV of the Iraqi Dinar is that there will be an RV this month of Janurary 2010. The question is, is it really true? I am hearing all sorts of information on this as being a possibility and I am also hearing that this is a fact. I am only hearing the so called facts in chat rooms but no one person is backing it up with facts. So, yesterday I decided to go into my bank to sit down with my banker to ask a professional his opinion. This is what he said: As with any investments there is risk and with risk comes only chances to become more wealthy thaN you currently are. So you have IQD and I said "yes". Thats definietly a risk however its one worth taking. "How do you figure I ask?" These are his exact words... "This bank holds a lot of IQD, this bank doesn't make irrational decisions. We started off very small and now are ranked in the top 5 banks in the country(curently #4). We have built a trust with our shareholders to invest wisely thus being very effective at yielding high gains for them. The board voted to invest in the IQD aprox. 1 1/2 years ago. The amount of money we invested is an amout we were only willing to keep under the threshold for 2 years. So with that being said, we are expecting a marginal return on investment by the end of May 2010. If you have any Dinar, expect to see your ROI by middle second quarter this year if not sooner.
